Took the carpets out to give em a quick dust replaced then and off i went to harewood house hill climb. Steady all the way, had a look and enjoyed the day. Thought to meself ahh right foot heavy boot, then it happened VROOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM full revs oh my god the accelerators stuck turned the key to off position and coasted to the hard shoulder where the steering lock came on and i ended half way up the grass bank. Silly me the pedal had got stuck under the carpet. Lesson learnt and morale is make sure you replace yer carpets in the right position or you will have to buy a new pair of pants

Lets out a big phew and just had flashback

I was just over your way in the Esprit. For some reason everybody and his dog felt the need to overtake me (as they do ).. but only on the straights of course. Family hatches are no match for an Esprit on roundabouts

You just plant it and drive round the outside of them. Or the inside. Or over the top, whichever is easiest

Wedge floor mats are a serious health hazard , did that the day after I bought mine , chucked mat very soon after.

I did the same - going round a roundabout at the time so couldn't turn off because of the steering lock.
Fortunately the over-rev limiter saved the engine - but it was noisy.
The new carpets (two days old) went back to the supplier with a strongly worded letter.

I tie wrap mine to the seat base so that they can't ride foward and interfer with the throttle, but only after it happened to me as well

Why turn the ignition off? Drop the clutch! Once you've come to a safe stop then you can turn off the engine and correct the problem ... but otherwise you're going to lose power steering as well as risk putting on the steering lock.

(At this point, everyone tells me the car in question is an auto with no power steering?)

The steering lock shouldn't come on unless you actually remove the key - did you remove the key? You could have put it to position I and killed the engine, but I spose it's asking a bit much in an emergency!

I wouldn't recommend dropping the clutch unless you have a rev limiter - except if there is no other way.

Erm - well this is after the event now isn't it. Just flip your foot under the throttle to lift it back.

Then take that bit of carpet out! And keep it out.

It's easy for us to comment after dixie has had his moment.

Sadly I lost my Ferrari the other day accelerating in the wet on a straight piece of road after moving away from stationary. The car snapped violently to the right. This was just not 'catchable' and I was a passenger until and including sideways impact with a telegraph pole. AS I say, the car is lost.

Cabriolet eh? That's interesting. I know of one for sale for about £34,000 ish I think, but that is probably a chop job.

There were I believe only nine or so factory sanctioned convertible conversions done, and those all LHD as far as I know. I can't remember who the factory approved coachbuilder was - that's rather deep in the memory cells.

Any other 400 convertibles will be non-sanctioned chop jobs. I don't know how good the Banham conversion is but I think there are 2 or so of those.

Send me some pics privately if you have some more of that car. And any others.

Dunno who did the carpets in my car, but the floor mats are press-studded to the 'underlay'... some kind of high-density foam rubbery stuff.

Thanks Mike - I'm OK. Terrible pain in the back of the head caused by the neck brace and board they fastened me up to though.

Sorry my comments have hijacked your thread dixie - not intended.

I did have a sticking throttle problem with my Wedge when I first had it - I did take that section of carpet out and kep it out! Hope you have solved your problem now.
