does any one out there have one kicking around the workshop , or know where i can get one from ?
they seem to be getting a bit thin on the ground these days
as an aside does any one know if any other bits need changing or is it a straight swap ?
thanks in anticipation of a flood of expert advice

Phone any of the Jag specailist breakers. They were common in a lot of XJ's and XJS models. Just make sure you get the correct ratio.
I am looking to change mine to a 2.88:1 from a 3.54:1

Generally been quoted around the £250 mark.

No idea what those numbers mean. The ratio and the fact that it is a Powerlok should be on a tag. You can tell if its an LSD if the driveshaft flanges move very easliy independently of each other.

7.

I swapped mine out of the Tasmin 200 for a LSD. The casings/castings are the same so it's just a straight swap. There should be a couple of tabs behind the rear cover bolts, one with 'PL' and the other showing the ratio.

now we are getting somewhere - thanks sevans
my diff is on the workshop floor - it's got a tag that says 3.54 which i presume is the ratio
i'm looking at second hand lsd units and most have a ratio of 3.3 which is no huge difference
at least i now know it's possible
ebay - followed by an expensive rebuild at ward engineering seems the way to go
to think i was only going to change the discs and pads and now i,ve got the thing in bits and my wallet is about to take a monumental bashing

have you considered an atb (anti torque biasing)diff from quaife?,these unit`s are virtually indestructable.
probably not much more than you are going to spend having the powerlock unit rebuilt and would outlast it ten times over.

thanks for that dick - i had started looking into the quaife units
as it happens i've taken a chance and bought a powerlok unit off ebay this evening - it was £132 and i have to travel miles to get it - i'll drop it off to ward's once i've made sure it'll fit
hope it's not a £132 lump of scrap !
typical brummie sold one for £50 at a time when i didn't need one !
the one i've bought is a 3.3 out of an old jag v12 the seller said it had only done 70k miles so with a bit of luck it will be ok for recon

we shall see

Does anyone know what ratios were available?
