Chassis number

Could someone please tell me where the chassis number would be stamped on my 1984 280i.
I have the chassis plate in the engine bay but need to know where it is also stamped on the actual chassis.

My 350i doesn't have the number stamped into the chassis, but the 400 chassis I have has the number stamped into the off side suspension turret upright area on the engine bay side.

If it's there, it'll be stamped into the right-hand front suspension tower... somewhere. Probably hidden by decades of rust, paint and Waxoyl.

I agree. It is usually stamped on the flat angled plate on the right side of the engine bay and it should be upside down as you look at it from the right fender. And, you'll probably have to clean off the area and use a flashlight (torch) to see it but it should be there.
