Tasmin Tyre Size

On the subject of tyre sizes I am having difficulty finding any decent tyres for the Tasmin in the 205/60 14 size. The only reasonably decent looking ones are Falken but even these do not have the right speed rating. I do not want to change the wheel diameter so does anybody know of any other options.

Upgrade to 15 inch wheels and fit lower profiles tyres.

No - upgrade to 16", even 15" tyres are hard to get in decent sizes and types!

Will 16's fit? If so which ones because I'm look to change mine - would love to see some pics to gauge an opinion....

I tried a few tyres in 205/60/14 and they were mostly pants, with the exception of the Michelin XWX - it has a very dated tread pattern so not really cool lookin', and is a bit ordinary in the dry, but OMFG do they corner well in the wet. Tested on Alfa Montreal, 1200kg 200bhp, so quite similar to a 280i performance wise. My old 280i came with Nankang 'suicide' tyres on, not sure if they were just old or I got a set of the recalled ones, but even in the dry was like driving on ice. BTW the XWX aren't cheap either.

But if you want to keep the original looking wheels then 15" is the way to go. I don't believe the original lattice wheels were available in 16". I managed to get hold of SO2 PP's in 15" a couple of years ago.

here we go.....you get several tyres for the 14" wheels, as long as you dont care about the speed index.

i had the same problem with my wedge, using the series1 "teledyne" wheels. the series2 "momo" wheels are also 14" but you will get similar designs as 15".

for me these designs are "ugly", but keeping the teledyne wheels means re-furbishing them.

for the same price of refurbishing the old ones, i bought now a set of Ronal-wheels, including tyres, 16". but you have to pay attention which tyre-size you fit in front, as the 14" ones with 205/60 are more or less the maximum of diameter you can fit at front, without doing any modifications on body. thats why i decided to use 205/45R16 at front, maybe 225/45 R16 will fit too. rears i took 225/50 R16V

but never forget: the larger the tyre, the more wear at your suspension!!

Thanks for the info. Still undecided what to do as I have got the original 14" lattice Momo wheels which are in good condition. I also have a set of the Series 1 Teledyne wheels although whoever had the FHC with these on in the past put 195 tyres on them, which I thought were only fitted to the 2litre version, and look totally wrong on the car.

You could fit the Continental Premium Contact 195/60 R14 86V on the original wheels although as Sevans mentioned I'd fit 15" wheels and 205/55/15 tyres, say the Dunlop SP Sport 9000 205/55 R15 87V Rim-protection runout, the Yokohama AVS dB 205/55 R15 88V or the Toyo PROXES T1-R 205/55 R15 88V Rim-protection.
