Roll Cage

Could some of the guys who have had a Tasmin racer possibly answer me this question. We are going to fabricate a Roll Cage for the Tasmin DHC on the weekend as per the MSA Blue Book specifications; but what I need to know is do your cages transfer all the loading through the body mounting plates on the chassis outriggers or are you also transferring the load to any other chassis members? I have already sorted out the backstay mounting points plus the fixed diagonal but need to finalise the main hoop and front cage mountings. Obviously the plates would be strengthened with the requisite welded backplate of the appropriate thickness and area, but there is nothing directly under the bodyshell floor that easily lends itself to mounting the cage safely to. I have looked at the design in the Steve Heath 'Bible' but do not think that will pass scrutineering (Hillclimbs).

I have a full cage and the front and back hoops mount onto the outriggers with thicker plates welded to them. There is no where else to mount them. The rear stays go ontop of the shock absober turret at the back. I also have a cross bar under the dash and side bars. The front hoop has been extended to provide protection for my feet but it required some pedal mods to give me space.

There is nothing that can take the cage on the floor but I have additional steel seat mounts that go across the chassis (available from Tower View).

BTW why not get the Tasmon racer kit from the Roll Centre where everything is done?

PS the car has been through scrutineering about 150 times now with no problems and was inspected by the MSA for its competition log book.

PPS it was based on the Rollcentre kit with a coupole of mods 'cos the car is a drophead.

Thanks for the information, very helpful. I know Rollcentre are the only ones with the pattern for the Tasmins but not a lover of the Company, thus doing it ourselves.
