V6 wedge for not a lot of wedge

Hi,

Having looked at this form the other angle (appologies for the sort of repost!) - is it worth buying a Tasmin or 280i with the humble V6 in it? Some of them are half the price of a V8 wedge. Are they half the car?

Can be if you can live with: quick car, not fast.....
And it is as expensive to run/maintain (except for the fuel bill). But Engine parts are more and more difficult to get hold of. And if the mechanical injection goes wrong, I rather prefer to work on the EFI system of a RV8 (but that is also a nighmare). You can also do a search on this forum and a lot of nice interesting information will pop up.

It is a choice, and when you only can have a wedge due to the lower price. It is absolutely a much better choice to go for a cheaper and well sorted V6 (as they are still good when sorted), then to end up with a V8 that will cost you (and not enjoying TVR ownership in the process).

After enjoying the V6 and you have more money, upgrading to a sorted V8 is always possible.....

Little bit of piston mathematics...
6/8ths of the car for 4/8ths of the price. I recon that's a definite bargain!
With the money you save you could stick some NOS on and end up with 11/8ths the car.
Either way their all crackers.

some would say that the 2.0 and 2.8 Wedges are where it all started I for one would like a nice 2.8 FHC Speed is not everything. At bbwf 06 the older, less powerfull cars got just as much attention as the big v8s

theres a realy nice coupe on ebay silver and black i owned this car for five years and did most of the work on it this car could be a real bargain i now what the reserve is

it looks like a bargain, compared what the owner wanted 2 weeks ago: the car was advertized at german-ebay for about 6500,-euro!!!

but "As far as I see it has never been welded anywhere and the chassis was repainted some years ago and does not show any corrosion or large rusty areas. It is all nicely preserved with paint and thin wax."

this could be ok..but could also be the typical rusty-chassis covered by paint, underseal and waxoyl, cause its missing the grey powder-coating, but i hope not!!

Got my wedge in may-280 fhc-cheap as chips £300
All I had to do was rewire it.Being all black wires that bit took 3 months(slow old job but I used to work for tvr-so im very much used to it)
Im about to take the engine and box out-mainly because of the slave cylinder leaking,but im going to do all the gaskets and paint,also fit a 5 speed type n box(£25 from ebay).
Buy of the year for me

Which is it that you are used to... black wires or slow old jobs Sounds like you got yourself a couple of bargains there. Hope you get them mated up soon. What did you do at TVR then?

Technician for 4 years...Best 4 years of my career saw the lanch of Cerbie and Tuscan..then the dealer dumped the franchise and I jumped over to BMW....Hoping to go self employed next year to do TVR + BMW
