VDO Oil Pressure Gauge - Anyone opened one up?

The original VDO oil pressure gauge in my '85 280i isn't working. It's getting voltage and I've replaced the sending unit. The gauge doesn't respond at all when it receives voltage. Of course I could replace it. There're lots of nice gauges around, like the current VDO Cockpit International oil pressure gauge, but I'd prefer to have a working OE gauge.

Has anyone taken one of these apart? Anyone know what's inside? Siemens/VDO has some repair centers around the US. The outcome of calling one of these centers wasn't promising.

Any thoughts?

You might be able to pick another 2nd hand one up cheeper than getting yours fixed...
