engine run relay

hi i have a 350i and its cuttin out and its down 2 a relay called the engine run relay (cream) but the relay is red!!! where can i get 1? help

The only red 'relay' normally found on a 350i is the steering module for the fuel injection.
Sounds like someone may be confusing with the Ford V6 setup which had a relay triggered by ignition pulses. I haven't come across that on a V8 though that's not to say it wasn't implemented on some...

its defo red nobody seems 2 know about it tho. in steve heath book it says its the engine run relay. sometimes it works and the car runs but when u take it out it doesnt start and tht the prob? doing my head in!!

Erm, yes... pulling it out out would tend to kill the engine...

To get one, take it to a decent motor electrical factor ( or auto electrician ) and ask them to match it. It should have a little diagram on the side to identify it.

Don't take it to Halfrauds, they tried to sell me a flasher unit last time I wanted a relay.

My 350i also had a RED relay, but I cannot remember what it was for now ( obviously it never went wrong )....

hi no got nothin on it apart for 4 numbers nobody seems 2 know or wants 2 know about it. av got tvrcartpart.com on the case and hes gettin back 2 me the mora. al let u know how a get on

Hi if you have a V8 and not V6 then I thought that there were 2 relays, a black one and a red one, and yes the red one has a different function to all the others.
I managed to swap mine by mistake once and wonder why the car would not start until I realised the red one went in a specific slot
If you get stuck try somewhere like Rimmers as I'm sure they would know what you mewan and probably stock one

I think I have a spare somewhere on my spare loom, but if I could find that I might be able to find other bits in my shed

Any Rover engine with the same type of EFI should have it. Therefore the question, did you try a landrover dealer for example? What you are looking for should be familiar to them.

My old SEAC had a red relay,never needed to change it though.I would take it to a local auto factors/store.Say can i have one of these please,let them open it up if they have to i'm sure it will be a standardish relay.

Doubt if the "relay" in question is your problem. It is just a few diodes inside and they either work or don't so would not cause an intermitant problem!! sorry if this doesn't help.
