400se Rear Aerial anyone?

Well, I've lost my rear aerial on my 400se

I unscrewed it to put the car-cover on put the aerial on the passenger seat and its gone. I don't know how I've managed to loose it

Does anyone have any idea where I can get another? The fitment on the carbody it screws into says "zender" on it. Looking at an early 90s 400se brochure, it looks like the original aerial made of black rubber

Yes I know I could fit another, but I want to try and keep it original.

Well my Standard 400 SE has a Black metal Electic Ariel.
Not sure if this help.

Just buy an electric aeriel or other type if you prefer those..... I'm sure you will find one to fit.

I could get one to fit but the original has quite a large footprint on the base unit. I don't want to remove it and have to respray the rear wing to cover up any previous fitment marks.

You might try going to a few automotive stereo shops and you'll probably find something that will work. Many of them have catalogues of all the various types of aerials they can get, but they may not actually have them in stock. If you have the dimensions of what you are looking for, they could probably get it for you.

I think I know the type you mean as I had one on my car when I got it. Mine is right at the back though - I notice yours is just behind the roof. I replaced mine with an electric one as someone had already fitted a micro switch to the boot latch, making it retract when the boot is opened - handy when you have a 400SE spoiler fitted which likes to snap them off.

If you can't find the original and did go the electric aerial route, then the base plate should be big enough to cover your original "marks". The only problem I can see with your setup is the placement - being at the front of the boot, you may not be able to hide the motorised bit. Hmmmm...

My one was something called Maystar - I think ...

It came with douzens on body fitments .. you choose the best and bin the rest.

T Cut also helps with the mark left by the old one.

Replaced my aerial when the spoiler broke it of (yes was in a hurry and forgot to retract it, it was dark) with a simple pull up to fill the hole and an old whip aerial in the boot behind the carpet. You remember the type from the seventies. As the car is fibre glass no need for the external aerial. Now no problems with vandals idiot leaving the aerial up and opening the boot etc

Was driving to work this morning and found it wedged down the side of the seat!

Quite! Now that radios are modern and more sensitive than the old Clarion's there is no reason why you should need to connect the electric aerial. Just leave it down and connect the coax lead to a bit of wire in the boot space, say 2m long.

The other advantage is that you won't get the aerial coming up when listening to a tape, CD, etc.

Why you should be listening to the radio in the first place, however, is beyond me. Do what I do and keep the radio fascia in the filing cabinet with the documents and spare keys....
