What size is my nipple??

Hi All
At the moment i am in the process of putting new rear calipers on the wedge, which i am sure you will know to be a lovely easy job.....

Any how, i have got most off except for the brake line nipple which i cannot find the spanner size for!!! Its between a 10 mm and an 11 mm...i guess metric being the old jag diff and therefore tried today with a 6-8" and also a couple others but no luck...any idea gents? Dont want to strip the top!!!!

Probably 7/16" then. Metric ones are often 11mm, some are 9mm. I'd have thought the Jag brakes would have been Imperial.

Matt, soak it in plenty of WD40 overnight to minimise the chanse of snapping the nipple

If you do break it, you can always get the remainder out with a decent set of easy outs.

Soak with plus gas etc the evening before..

Make sure the spanner fits .. 7/16 th's etc..

If it's a spoppy fit then get the right spanner.

The with the spanner (ring end on) with a finger on for a little
positive location - hit lightly with either you hand or a hammer..
this depends on whether you have IT hands or real workers hands.

Thanks for your ideas guys...ive used loads of plus gas, its my saviour in the garage! how anyone does anyjobs like this without it i will never know. the odd thing is, hardly any shops have it and noones ever heard of it!

Bthe way, i have IT hands but use them like a man!

Flick it a few times with your tongue,the 11 mm spanner should fit then

Heat always works as a last resort. I also invested in a brake spanner for undoing the nuts on the brake lines, these are really good as they act more like a ring spanner so less chance of rounding anything off.
