Best way to do this? i.e. ....how to get the strain away from the ARB? Don´t want to get slapped in my pretty face by anything....
All tips and tricks welcome.

ARB is not really a problem. It's only in tension when one wheel is higher or lower than the other. Jack and support the front end - remove both wheels and its simple from there.
If you are removing the springs - it's a different story. You need a long 12mm threaded bar, nuts washers & bar, which basically replace the shock absorber and keep the spring compressed whilst you remove the pivot bolts. It's all in the SH Bible.

How come you didn't have to fanny around like this on the Cortina or Granada?

Probably because they used springs wound from coathanger wire. The springs used on the TVR are far firmer.
It's one job on the Wedge that I really hate. I've found it's not possible to compress the spring enough with the threaded rod and so also use 2 trolly jacks (one either end of the lower wishbone)to get the wishbone in position.
Seriously thinking of going the Steve Heath coilover route on the front as it makes working on them far easier, it provides camber and ride height adjustment and it's easier to play around with different rated springs. Cheers steve

Granada / Cortina has clearance to get standard compressors on the springs - Tiv chassis makes this difficult / impossible hence the bar.
