pod advice needed

having got my front bumper back on after ripping it off on my garage wall I have discovered that one of the headlight pods rattles and seems loose when it's up... is there an adjustment or method to tighten them up?

Nope. Theres just 2 bolts, one either side, which bolt through the pod into the bodywork to act as a "hinge". These should be lock wired in so that they cannot undo themselves when you pop the lights up. It could be one of the bolts is really lose causing some play.

To check, just pop the lights up and take out the light unit. 2 self tapping screws for round trim, and another 3 or 4 for the actual beam unit itself. The bolts should be little more than hand tight and then lock wired to the holes in the pod just behind them. Also check that you still have the nylon/rubber spacer washers between the pod and the bodywork. If not, you can also use a tank cutter and cut some out of a piece of flatterned hosepipe or something. I used the clear pipe which you use for garden ponds.

There is adjustment in the length of the strut that does the actual lifting.

If the pivot bolts are not worn then you need to take the headlight out and adjust the length of the strut arm until the pod nestles tightly against the bits of hose that double as buffers.

You will have to check the alignment as it will probably be out now.

It seems a bit of a coincidence that this happened when you tore off the bumper - you need to check all around that corner to make sure nothing else is loose.

If the pod is level when down and lifts to the correct height then you probably just need to adjust the rubber stops to stop it rattling. On my car they are mounted in slots in the fiberglass so you can adjust them.

Does anyone know if the pods can be raised with out the battery being attached..

yes, underneath there is a knob on the underside of teh lift motor. Its basically on a concentric cam .. keep turning and the pod will lift, then lower
