At this moment in time, Im planning Wedge ownership within the next 12-16 months, but I would like to ask a wee question from you Wedgerific Wedgeaholics

Ive been told by many people and read many times that TVR's leak, especially those of an older ilk, but is it true??

Odd's on, when I finally get the cash together to go head first into the V8 pool, I will be keeping her on the driveway until a garage can be located (unless Im already in France, then problem solved) and I dont want to have to mop up a pool of water everytime it rains - Although I already do at the moment hehe

Any help and advice on any matter regarding Wedges would be welcomed

As with any TVR it depends on how well it's cared for.

Neither of mine leaked... and one of them lived outside for 12 months...

No leaks here. There are things you can do to combat this.

All three of ours have leaked to some extent, although if you need to leave one outside, I think a waterproof hood cover would certainly help.

I have had two and no leaks at all, but there are external hoods if needed as some have stated.

Water leaks in at about the same rate as it leaks out. Assuming you occasionally open the doors this should prevent it from filling up completely. hehe
For keeping it outside I would recommend a car cover and if you can get an extension lead to reach the car I would run a dehumidifier in the passenger footwell (homebase sell em). Small peltier ones can be had for 30-40 quid but desiccant ones operate better and at lower temperatures.

There is a temptation to use a fan heater in the car but the excessive swings in temperature and humidity, not to mention the possibility of fire, will destroy the wood veneer... Go on ask me how I know

Oil and coolant have a tendency to follow gravity but that is dependent on how well looked after the vehicle is.

Don't let any of this put you off. Condensation is God's way of telling you to drive with the top down and there is no quicker way to dry the car out so long as it isn't raining and even then if you keep moving you'll be surprised how dry you stay!

Get it bought and start enjoying it.

Cerbera = hard-top = leaks so kept in garage
Wedge with old, dodgy fitting, saggy soft-top, used as daily drive = watertight even in torrential rain & kept outside at present 24/7 as Cerbera in garage

If they were cat and dog, the cat's inside with a smug look on it's face and the Wedge is the dog outside, doesn't give a damn and is happily chewing on a discarded MX5 it found while mooching around the area.

Bottom line, depends if your lucky with the one you buy.

Leaks around door top edge - fit new door rubbers. Leaks onto footwells - run sealant along windscreen edge. Still leaks onto footwells - reseal around all cables running through bulkhead. Still leaks onto footwells - keep out of the rain

Proofing the hood does a good job of keeping the water out around the screen and side glass. The fabric does not absorb water allowing seepage (?) into the cabin when it is water logged.

And don't forget yer flaps. The ones that direct water to the outside from the channels that butt up to the side glass vertical edges.

This bit you must not do on my advice incase it badger your seals. Then cut gaps in the seals on the bottom to allow water to spill out rather than in.

Agreed. Best to keep it to under a foot across... Definitely want it to be a hole smaller than yer bell end. You don't want that scraping along the tarmac when yer approaching warp nine. yikes
Remember hairy arsed Wedgers are more impressively endowed in the trouser department than the average TVR owner hehe
Prospective Wedge owners need to factor into their budget the purchase of a full set of larger underpants(2).
