350i speedo cable query

having found my inner had snapped I have replaced with a good secondhand one which works but..

I found the fork shaped retaining clamp at the gearbox end a bad fit and rather loose so I turned it over and it did up real tight - which I assume is a good thing unless someone tells me otherwise? it's the LT77 early 1984.

..and the end that goes in the speedo head has lost its brass 'ferrule' but seems to work fine. anyone know if this is going to be a problem?
