http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/WWW/CARS_search.asp?page=3&modelexact=1&make=TVR&min_pr=5000&postcode=ne2+1hr&source=0&model=ANY&max_pr=10000&sort=3&variant=&mileage=0&miles=1500&photo=1&keywords=&agerange=0&max_records=50&search.x=32&search.y=3

About 3/4 of the way down that page above there is a yellow 420 SEAC apparantly going for £9000 in Enfield.

"1987 TVR 420 SEAC CONVERTIBLE 1
of 52, 1987, E reg. 40000 miles, yellow, grey leather, blue hood, electric windows, mirrors, walnut dash, new alloys/tyres, s/history, simply stunning. £8,995 . Enfield."

Is that cheap? Certainly seems to be. Anyway I can't afford it but if anyone is interested I thought you might like to know.

Sounds like a good price... but where's the
rear spoiler, non original wheels - could have
had the identity changed from a 390se !

Yeah I was thinking that, it was the "1 of 52" thing that had me confused though, it is a dealer I believe so he wouldn't want to be done for false advertising shirley?

Well seeing as the 420SEAC is only 9 miles from me I am going to give them a call - lets hope they will take a 350 in P/X

Does anyone know anything about the car?

Jeez!
That has got to be one of the most bandwidth unfriendly sites I've ever visited! 100K+ for a JPG is appalling, especially where the same JPG is used for both the thumnail and main image forcing us to load well over a Meg just to view the basic page.

And if Podie hadn't told me what was in the site, my boredom threshold would have been exceeded long before I would have even got into the TVR section.

Get the plonkers a modem and make them suffer their own site.....

Did I want to look around the rest of their site? Did I

Genuine SEAC with partial aramid body but has been "chopped about" a bit, different engine, has adjustable front suspension ,rear end crash repaired, have had 2 people report to me about this car, curiously one said it was in very good condition one said it is very poor, i tend to believe the latter, worth a look..

Danny, et al,
Saw it last week and discussed it with, Tim (ACT), original owner, Brooklands, The TVR Centre, etc. The engine is not the original and the car doesn't give you a good kick so may well not be a 4.2. I can't find who changed it. Wheels are good but none original. No rear spoiler - probably damaged when the NSR was damaged and repaired. Hood is V. Tatty. Interior is a mixture of Grey, blue and white. Dash is peeling, - don't they all if left. It's had a colour change once again, possibly when the damage was repaired (the seller mentioned this). Nose is Kevlar, chassis front is adjustable but tatty. I mentioned this car to Shawn a few weeks ago. He saw it in 2001 and walked away! The thought he imparted was it'd take at least £5k to bring up to a reasonable state (body, etc wise) and not including the engine, IMHO he's right thus at £9k plus £5k plus engine? it's a little high. Interested in Danny's thoughts, the £13k car on this chat topic would seem the better deal.

They both look superficially nice ... hope they
turn out to be good un's when you look at them.

It's a fact of life that an older car will need
a bit of money throwing at it.. sooner or later !

I was wearing TVR goggles when I bought my SEAC and probably should have walked away. I didn't and although it's cost me a fair bit to sort out (still quite a big list to do), I haven't regretted it for a minute.

I'm not reccommending this approach! But having got through the rough patch, it's now my TVR in a way that could never have happened if I had bought a minter. We shall never be separated

As ever these things depend on your budget - I had
a fairly generous one and just wanted a very good
condition car that only needed details improving.

I look for good condition - Body work, chassis,
interior, Engine.

The rest is just wear & tear consumables.

I've probably spent my 3 year budget in the first
3 months but I'm happy to do that as it means that
I can enjoy the new brakes / suspension for the
whole period of my ownership.

If your budget is near 10K and you want to own a
SEAC then you have to strike a hard bargain and
improve the car when you can.

They are no more expensive than a 400 / 450 SE
and with all Wedges the insurance in stupidly
cheap (around £250 on a 5k milage limit).

Enjoy your search.

As you say Rev, it's all about budget and included in this is a dose of what your after, how long you plan on keeping it, etc. If it's to collect for the long term then any state, etc is okay, I guess! though eventually we all change our minds or circumstances (though Stainless Steve'd probably never dream of that day just at the moment - what a car) and need to sell our toys, in in this case IMHO a good solid car (can be tatty round the fringes), with all the records in tact and FSH will give it the edge. There are some good, sensible money FSH 400's out there at the moment.
Cheap SEAC option, dare I blasfeem and say some "fake" bits can be bought to add to a 350 or perhaps a 400 - mind you it'll never be like Duncan, Steve or Rev's cars!!
What ever car if it's a V8 Wedge - Enjoy!!

I'd be the first to recommend a good 400SE - I had
some great drives in mine. Probably more fun than
my Griff 500 as a drivers car... the noise from a 400
beats a Griff 500 hands down.

The Burgandy 400 with the SEAC / 4.3 cross spoke
wheels looks superb... and it's still for sale...
some great cars out there !
