Wedge v Mustang
Discussion
So my my brother has a Mustang convertible and is on the lookout for the next mode of transport. The choice is between another Mustang and a Wedge.
Naturally as a TVR owner I'm pushing him away from a metal pig shed.
TVR Wedge
+ Points
1) Still has a V8 and both are manual 5 speed
2) Fibreglass - little rot so it won't look like a pig shed after 2 years
3) Steering wheel on the correct side
4) English so no problems getting bits
5) A wee bit cooler than Mr Ford :-)
6) Not featured on stupid telly adverts
- Points
1) Only 2 seats
Can anyone else help support converting a sad Mustang owner to a Wedge ?
Thanks
Chris
has he considered a TransAm? I had a '94 and it was fanbleedingtastic.
- bombproof chevy 350ci V8 with 300hp
- burbly burbly noises
- goes like stink
- 25mpg
- targa top with two glass panels that fit easily in the boot
- no leaks!
- proper 2+2
- all mod cons like a/c, cruise, etc
- superb ICE
servicing was a teensy weensy bit pricey but hey ho......

If he still wears shirts undone to the naval and a large gold medallion ..
Well he should but the TransAm.
If he wants to be individual and stand out from the crown - then he should buy a wedge

Alan, are you on the pop? Last time I saw that many mistakes in two sentences it was Blair speaking...

No - not on the pop but can't be too bothered to check the spelling..
If you can get the Rosch or Shelby stang's it might be alright, but if it's just the ADM spec RUSTang GT, forget about it, IMHO.
I just bought a 390se the other day and I was curious what sort of North American built 5h|t3 I can kick ass on here in Kanaduh.
I looked at the car statistics on www.carfolio.com for various "stock" stats on the cars I'd normally come across here, ie: the cars
who's driver would look at my wedge and want to race me. I looked at everything from rx7/8's to WRX, to Dodge Charger RT, to IROC's (still see lots of those), you name it... american and jap, looked at any car that I see here than might want to race... incl 300zx, nsx et. al.
You know what? Either carfolio's stats lie... and moreover, lie consistently, or the wedge truly does rule in the power/weight category.
Tell him to go with the wedge, or be embarrassed by one.
Just my two bits.

3) Steering wheel on the correct side
I'll certainly agree that there is a "correct side" for the steering wheel when it comes to things like passing another car
when it affects the visibilty of an oncoming traffic lane. On the other hand, having recently driven an RHD vehicle in Europe
recently (13 days ago.. Alpha Romeo 155..in Holland/Germany) I'll have to submit that in the vast majority of cases, LHD is superior.
Why? It's superior because I can do 2 things at once not possible in a RHD car when the turn signals are on the left.
To wit: shift and signal at the same time. IMHO, if European cars switched the signals to the right side of the steering column,
it would be possible to shift and signal at the same time. NOTE: The JDM FC rx-7 has right side signals for the "should be" obvious reason.
As a North American driver it hit me like a brick wall. I felt handicapped as a driver. I'd head into a roundabout, run out of first gear,
then wanting the 2nd exit try to signal, but couldn't because I was too busy shifting left handed (in a right handed world) into second. :P
Always wanted (and would still love) a 60's Mustang conv, probably a shelby conversion if they did one.
Be great in America with those long great roads doing 12 mpg, but over here it's the Wedge on the windys doiing 15 mpg
You still see some pretty ratty ones out in the States so they must go on forever, next would be the black Trans Am complete with Golden Eagle on the bonnet

My first TVR had the indicators on the right, and the ignition switch on the left - always turned it the wrong way when switching the engine off, and the GF always put the wipers on to turn...
So the ignition still turned clockwise? I smell a conspiracy to sell starter motors here!
Scuse me bruv... ok, ok so I "may" have been slightly tempted by a Wedge but I need a car to start when I turn the key otherwise said daughter gets told off for being late for school. Neither the old pig-shed (soon to be donor for 5000M ;-)
nor the new Gervaise-wagon
have failed me yet.. or turned into lawn-mowers

Fore those not old enough to remember, British cars were always built with the indicator stalk on the right for that very reason. We only changed to indicators on the left when we were conned into the EU (or Common Market as it was then). The concept of having one car manufactured in LHD or RHD was fine but they minimised the cost by keeping the same steering column layout and, as there wer more LHD cars than RHD, that was chosen. I think you'll find that most if not all the Japanese cars have the indicator stalk on the right as they're RHD, and take no notice of the LHD market other than putting the wheel on the other side.
I think it's a safety issue and we should rise up and sue Mr Ford and Mr VW for infringing our human rights, by not allowing us to indicate and change gear at the same time. Are you with me?

Too true, best thing about my '71 scimitar is it only having one stalk and that being on the correct side, must admit that fumbling around for rocker switches to put the windscreen wipres on is a slight drawback

Had a nice little encounter with one of the new Mustangs after the last Goodwood Breakfast Club
Heading back to the A27 Muzzie was in front of me. As we hit the roundabout just before that half mile straight to the next roundabout he was obviously waiting for me to come alongside - of course I was happy to oblige
So we were level as we hit the straight - I was in second and floored it and lept foward
About 3 seconds later I finally heard the "Whump" as the Muzzie kicked down
Needless to say we were both giving it beans but I managed to keep my nose in front, even with my extended braking distance (suppose he had to as well with all that weight)
Anyhoo - thought I would share on this topic - it still makes me smile now!!!

Nope, a '88 Mustang LX.... (worth putting up with the plain looks for the
engine)
