I have just built a wooden frame to hold the chassis up off the deck whilst I build it up. Just noticed during lifting the chassis on that some of the paint is flaking off. I was told when I bought the "box of bits" that it had been painted in POR 15 (7 coats). I'm a bit concerned now about the rest of the paint a falling off at some point. Have you guys got any suggestions about what to do with it? at a reasonable budget? Also as you can see from the photo this car is really in pieces - any suggestions of upgrades or tweaks I should be making as I go along?

I'm sure with a chassis in total strip down you could do a lot, how about rubberising it or even chrome plating it for show

Hopefully thst will be one nice wedge when completed. As for mods how about a 5.5l V8 and build the best from bits that you can find / afford. hope you have a budget in mind, as then you need to treble it and add a little, times the year plan by 4 and then it should all be finished and looking pukka Roll on BBWF 2010 for the star of the show

Shaun, I think it really depends how long you plan to keep the car. If I planned to keep it for a good few years I'd get the chassis done properly. If it's flaking already what's it going to be like in a few years time? Then spend the money on the things that are really difficult to sort out once it's all put back together ie. Petrol tanks...maybe some stainless ones. Most other things like exhausts, suspension, diffs, gearboxes can be repaired/altered with a few days work but anything that requires the body off to repair is going to cost time, money or both.
One thing I would recommend whilst the body is off is to put some heat reflective material down the transission tunnel and bulkhead. It makes a massive difference with heat soak into the cabin.

Thanks for that, thats certainly a few thoughts. I dont know whether the budget will push to a bigger engine and the current lump is being rebuilt as is. Definitely look into the chassis treatments and insulating the tunnel though - I want to keep this beast for a few years and have fun! so I agree why she is in bits it mite as well be done properly. I'm glad that the addition of the welded on flask has been noted. This was a modification that I thought would be worthwile especially for the BBWF when full of beer (never been but sounds great fun)
