Dissappointing first track session with BIG WEJ

Went to do Snetterton yesterday. Came in after about 8-10 laps for a thorough check over and found the rear brakes binding. Both inner (diff side) caliper pistons siezed. Outer ones OK.
The action I've gotta take is obvious.
The question is, Why ?
Not a known problem with them is there ?
Seems odd that it's both inners and the outers move freely.

Are you sure it was the pistons seized? the pads can seize in the caliper through a combination of road crud and pad material, and not allowing them to move back from the disc. Plus the rear brakes do get very hot because of the inboard location - fairly easy to fry the pads unless they're upgraded.

I tried taking on a Nissan Skyline at Castle Coombe in the 450SE, the 18 year old springs, brakes and suspension setup really started to show the age of the car against the 'newish' Jap thingy.

Spend some time and money on the springs, dampers, bushes, pads, brake disks, and hoses and I am sure you won't be so dissapointed! ;-)

Just remember how old these cars are! they will need tinkering with if you intend to prep it for track use. Have a look at some of the 280i race prep'd cars just to see what can be done to make 'em track ready.

.....The bloody sound good going around a track though.

Surised a wedge is allowed near a track due to being over the 99 limit most demand .

We've stripped the rear calipers out and the problem was the inboard pistons jammed. They are OK, we'll put a new set of seals in. The Pads were Mintex racing pads and were approaching their service limits when we did the pre-trackday checks. The noise level we got when we checked before the day was 102 dB. The day's limit was 105 and checked on a drive by. Although the stated limit was 105 dB static.
So, all in all, not too bad.
I got to drive round a Skyline, which made me grin.
The suspension is good; It's got some nylon bushes and stuff as it's been set up for sprinting by the previous owner. Also the big front brakes.
All we need now is another (more successful) trackday.
