How to recommission a 350i

Hi all,

I am thinking about buying a 350i FHC, but it has been laid up for three years, in a dry garage, unused and unstarted. I was wondering what sort of things will need to be done to get her back to life, and what it might cost me.

So far it seems the main problem will be decomposed fuel blocking up the injectors and pump, and the engine may be siezed and a dead battery.

Anyone got any ideas/experience with a resurrection?

I resurrected a 390SE from a field last year.

ERmmm, just started it really.

You might find that youve got gummy injectors. I tapped mine gently but sharply with a mallet to get the pintles freed up and cure the misfires (it was only running on 5 cylinders to begin with).

Might be a few leccy gremlins i spose...

Now that would be silly to be another 390se, when I just sold one. Okay I admit it, I prefer FHCs. I wonder if there are any FHCsx out there?

I had exactly the same layup when I got my 350i. The guy had left the car layed up at an angle with not much petrol in it. All the condensation and gunk went to the bottom and then into the system. I mean gunk, it was like monkey come everywhere.I would definetly, without a shadow of doubt, drop all the petrol out of the tank,pump and lines and anything else to do with the fuel. Take out all the inj's and clean them. Look down into their tiny filters and metic-u-lussly clean them.
Put in new fuel and filters, oil and water, take out dizzy and prime oil pump.
It might take a day, but you will reap the rewards afterwards.....not like I did. Months of shear agony!!!!!!!!

doubt it but i have a 390FHC and i prefer em too

Is it in primrose yellow by any chance?

No, i did look into buying that one a long time ago. mine is in grey and i'm not sure if it started life as a 390 or whether the engine was swopped later on.
