Can anyone recommend a supplier for a set of rear disk for a 1990 400se.
How much of a pain in the proverbial is it to fit em ?

Get the solid versions (ones without the scalloped edge). Dead easy to change shouldn't take more than a weekend. Longer if the drive shaft bolts don't come undone and you can't free the wired up brake calliper mounting bolts and the handbrake assembly won't free up.

Gory details in the bible!

Got mine for a 350 (same?) from Wedge, now RT Racing? Changing them was a doddle as the diff was on the floor and in bits (calipers off etc), wouldn't like to try it on the car with bits giving hassle and refusing to come off.
Not saying you have to drop the diff mind.....

Don't envy you there... not an easy job
but not impossible. Be vary careful with the driveshaft nuts and fit new nylock nuts
when re-assemblying...

Think they are Jag discs but probably cheap
enough from RT racing.

Thought you had to avoid them and get the all metal locking ones due to the heat melting the nylon/plastic etc?

Ooo... don't really know.

I would not think it gets that hot under there.

But if anyone is in doubt - talk to someone
like RT / Peninsular etc...

I used Nylocs to replace the same that came off
my 400SE.

It does get hot as the diff seals will often dry out.
I have used the nyloc ones for years and not had a problem but I do copperease them so I can get them off the next time. In some cases it may be necessary to weld a bar to them to free them up!

Ah well, thats the nut bit explained. I just took the old ones down the local fastner place and asked for more of the same.
No problem getting the old ones off as the grease fron the UJ's had melted at some point (track day so not normal motoring) and lubed them for me.

Local Motorsave quoted me £105 rear disks and pads fitted to my 350i two years ago - took them 6 hours to do one side and 1 hr to do the other and even replaced the stud that the TVR specialist had bu**ered up and only wound the nut half way on 2 years before - and not bothered to tell me about - and charged me thick end of £500 after all the overpriced bits were added up! Motorsave made a brilliant job and stuck to their price with a smile. No extra charge for the stud sir! Said they didn't realise they were inboard when they quoted but were happy to do the job at that price.(Big fat tip to the mechanic)
No run out on the disks and they shone up lovely.
