Do wedges have VIN's?

I don't know if the UK or TVR used/uses the VIN number standard.
I'm guessing not since I saw no such number on the bill of sale for my
wedge, nor on the DVLA "green slip". ( which came in today's mail ) Is there a VIN?

If my wedge has no VIN, my provincial government will assign me one,
however, as we all know, bureacracy is slow as molasses flowing uphill in Janurary
so I'd like to get that ball rolling ASAP. Otherwise I'll probably have to wait
a month or two and lose 1/2 my 5 month driving season.

Jim, Mike, can either of you two provide me with any sort of chassis number and/or
engine number so I can apply for the VIN and get the ball rolling early? OR, if it has
a VIN, do you happen to know it? I can't actually register the wedge until it hits
Alberta soil, but I can pre-apply for a VIN with the bill of sale and green slip from DVLA.

There is a chassis number, and think that in the mid-eighties it is a VIN format. Although a special as limited number of cars per year.
You can find an explanation of the number in the wedge bible.
Probably the previous owner knows it, and it can be found on the cars official documentation.

why not try contacting the previous owner and if that fails the DVLA can be quite helpful if you catch them on a good day...

i thought the chassis number was on both the log book and the mot
when i sorted all the paperwork into a file for that 390 there were mountains of old mots etc so it'll be there some where !

If TVR did follow VIN guidelines, the number would be right on the info plate in the engine bay over the wheel well. There would also be one
on the dash at the bottom of the window so cops can see the VIN through the window. Since nobody's mentioned those locations, I'm assuming there is none.

That really sucks if that's the case. The VIN assignment fee is $418.
That's $24 per digit/letter.

There is a vin on your wedge, as hp said. Offside near bulkhead under bonnet, and on the many mot's and previous owner documents....

Certainly does have one.

Here's what taimar78 told me,


"Your car shows as VIN #SA9DH35PFHB019336, engine # NCK046, factory Works Order
#87/0336 with a build date shown of Aug. 19, 1987.
It was originallly finished in Oceanic Blue and records indicate the original
selling dealer was Haughins TVR located in Barrow-in-Furness, England."

He's quite the goldmine of info aparently!
