Gents, managed to get 350 s2 through MOT by removing relays to h/ lights and manualy winding up.This got round the problem of one pod not raising. However, out the other night and went to manualy wind up duff pod when it sort of popped up an down!!.Wound it up again and at the end of my blast found that it went down of its own accord with the other side when the lights were turned off.Do you think it could be earthing or the motor?.I don`t want to go barking up the wrong tree.Any comments would be appreciated

Not familiar with Wedge lights yet, but my TR7 had the same lift motors, the warning label says 'disconect at red multi-plug before raising manually' or words to that effect. No experience with faults on these motors as mine never mis-behaved, but I understand that they can take on a life of their own!

Try, swapping the relays, as it's quick and easy. However, my money would be on the switch block on the side of the motor, water gets in and corrodes the contact. You will have to remove the pod to get at this properly. There is a small cover with (I think) 4 x 7/8mm bolts. In there are the contacts, clean them up and seal the cover with some gasket or silicon sealant.

Steve is probably right about the contacts - but dont make the mistake i made and bend the copper strip or you will have to drill out the rivet that holds it in to reshape it and replace rivet with a small nut and bolt! While your at it check that the 4 carbon brushes are ok as these can seize.
