In this particular case, this 1984 model Florida-based car had been fitted with a Ford 5-litre V8 and automatic trans. (The car was originally fitted with automatic trans, by the way.)
This photo was taken many years ago at the British Car Day event in Maryland, which used to draw as many as 35-40 TVRs at its peak.

On a complete tangent

I notice the car in the background is the same colour as mine
Very unusual a Dark Brown Metallic
Seen 2 others ever in pics (1 was American) but no others in the flesh

And does that bonnet actually shut over the filter ? Or does he take it off for driving and put it back on for show

I like the twin filters though, although I think if I'd gone to that much trouble I would have tried to put them the other way round so they don't drip all over my nice shiny engine when I change them

Looks like a dent in the sound deadening that would match up. Must have been interesting to watch the hood flex if there was any play in the motor mounts.

On tangent... that brown color was the color of the first and only wedge I ever saw (parked for sale in Boca Raton, Florida about '87-88) before I bought mine.

The brown color was used on quite a few 280i Series 2 cars here in the States. While it may not be a color most people would think of for a sportscar, it actually works well with the tan interior.

IMHO, it would look better, weigh MUCH less, and go a hell of a lot faster with a ported 3-rotor 20b twin turbo.
If and when chevy, ford or rover can generate 550 RWHP off of 2L displacement (reliably, turbo or not)
and can rev PAST 10,000 RPM, I'd reconsider.

You're almost in troll territory there I suspect the sound track would not fit with the vehicles ethos.
