Discovered - 1984 Motor Show car?

have just discovered a tag attached to the wiring loom deep inside the dash of my 1984 350i that reads "587-9 V8 Conv RH Motor Show". The car is white with red velour interior and chassis number is DH5879R1. the registration is B879 TYG. If anyone can help solve the mystery it would be much appreciated.

I have a poster on my wall of a white series one 350i with a red interior. It had the large vinyl type TVR badge on the bonnet in red, with the non-flared in type mirrors. Chrome door handles I think, and red side stripe which has a "gap" in it over the front wheel arches.

The poster was one of TVR's advertising ones from when the 350i first came out, around 1983/84. Its a bit like this poster, but obviosuly features a different car and description. Same theme though. I would try and scan by poster for you, but its framed and A3 in size. Perhaps I will have a go at it tomorrow when I have some other things to scan.

thanks Dan - the TVRCC archive photo is what my car looks like although mine now has anthracite colour wheels and a white hood - which are probably not original. I may need to get confirmation of its use at a motor show from TVR themselves (if anyone's in...)or if I am able, from Harrogate Horseless who supplied it new in October 1984 to a Mr John Hillyard-Miller of Chelsea.

You know - the first time I saw a wedge was on a motor show telly programme in the '80's, it was a white one, and I thought "I've gotta have one of them!".

I wonder if your car was the very one that sparked my interest in wedges?

I think the black and white pic on the TVRCC archive of the 'white' car is actually yellow(?) in real life...... I could be mistaken though, I seem to remember seeing that pic and the car being yellow.

My Taimar is TYG so it was registered in Leeds, or nearby, I guess which is obvious from the HHC reference.

i have just got my renewal form for my tvr car club membership and have noticed that on one of the pages it has some history of my tvr, which it turns out to be the show car from the 1986 brussels motor show and has had some write ups and pictures in the " sprint " mag. i would love to find some old pictures of it.

hmm..if mine was indeed at a motor show I think it would have to have been Geneva or Brussels - the UK motor show was October 84 which is after when mine was sold. does anyone know the dates of motor shows in 1984 outside the UK? and whether TVR exhibited at them?

It won't be Amsterdam (RAI), as these are odd years as organised every two years and not to clash with Brussels. Previous owner told me that my wedge was on display in 1987, he saw it, then test drove the demonstrator and bought the show car. Nothing special to it, as NIMAG in Holland simply displays a car from their new sales stock.
Went all years to the RAI in the '80s, except that one.....
