Oilpressure Gauge--no warning light?

is it true that the early 280 tasmins (with SW Stage instruments) are only fitted with an oil-pressure gauge but no warning light?

is the oilpressure sensor a ford-item? (as it doesnt look like)

today the oilpressure on my tasmin dropped down under 0 during driving. first the gauge started to flacker, than dropped down under 0 and sometimes coming back to 4bar again.

as the engine runs quite i assume an electrical problem.

Per the alternative parts list: Oil sender switch VDO 360-003 or 1521001033 0-5 bar

I have an '86 and it only has a gauge, no idiot light.

Some of the VDO senders have a resistance for the gauge plus a switch for a warning light build into one unit.

If you replace with one of these, you can add your own warning light.

i checked again the system last nite.

found on the stewart-warner homepage some info: it seams that the sender should have 240ohm resistor.

i disconnected the cable from the sender (endless resistor): gauge under 0.
i connected the cable direct to the minus: gauge on maximum.

so it seams that the wirting and gauge are working correctly. conclusion: sender damaged.

will check now for a VDO one.

again some news:

the VDO sender has 10-180Ohm resistance...the SW 240ohm.....

not sure if this is compatible....

a friend lent me a VDO sender. fitted it and?

the gauge works but totally incorrect. (reading around 2 bar too much)

but now i know that my engine is ok, the sender is damaged and now the search for an SW sender will start.

...or would it be an idea to take, lets say a 60ohm resistor, (VDO max 180ohm, SW 240 Ohm= differnece 60Ohm) and put it in line to the sender?
