steering rack

did i read somewhere that the 350 steering rack was a cortina V unit ?
i tried searching but couldn't find the thread (incompetance probably)

It is indeed. I believe either Mk4 or Mk5 (Different metal, but same rack).

My old wedge had power steering and there a number of different racks, all of which TVR modified slightly by moving the pipework around for clearance.

Personally, I'd go for the same option and have yours overhauled as you know there will be no fitment issues.

no power on mine so i was hoping to just buy a recon one and stick it on without having to send mine away

I have just replaced my non power steering rack for the second time. The first exchange Cortina MK V developed slack but was a straight fit. The second one from same firm under guarantee is much better but the tyres now rub against the body on full lock About £30 though what they can do for that money with everyone taking a profit is beyond me.

Do check it carefully against the old one and get the hard plastic mountings. My rubber ones were all like oily sponges and the rack moved within them

When the insurance company confirm my car is a total loss within the next few days I will start breaking it. Standard non-pas rack on it is OK as far as I know.
