ignition ampifier techie question

Some ignition apms have two connectors and some have three, what is the 3rd connector for?
And can a 3 con one be used in place of a two con?
Only asking because I have a nasty intermoter 2 con at fitted but have a brand new 3 con lucas as a spare.

It isn't - only two terminals are connected; the middle one is unused.

The loom does not connect to that terminal; it's unused.

Yeah, I appreciate that: I'm saying maybe the terminal is internally connected to the ground for the electronics. The module is also grounded by its mountings but could be they put an earth terminal on anyway...

If you are having any problems, think that there is a lucas 'adaptor'-set available: converting the 3 into a 2-spade connector.
