280i hot starting.

having trouble starting my 280i when hot if left for more than 5 minutes, talking to the ford boys they say it's a common problem i would really like to try and sort it out can any one help!!

Try the ignition module, worked for me. I know it can be anything but I'd start there if you have a known good one to try. Electrickery can cause intermittent faults, you think you fixed, then...you haven't.

After and next to the fuel pump is a fuel accumulator which keeps the fuel pressure up for 20-30 minutes. This stops fuel evaporation and long churns on the starter. Mine works intermittently and so far it has started before the battery gives up but I have started carrying jump leads. I must really fix it one day.

Assuming your idle drops when car is warmed up then your Aux air device is ok.
WUR changes the changes the control pressure as the car warms up.
The thermo time switch is for when the car is cold and can be unplugged to eliminate as a problem.
Impulse module (frequency valve) might not be cycling.

Check for vacuum leak around WUR (spray WD40 listen for engine speed change)

To check definitivly you need a CIS type pressure guage. Any bosch/Porsche place will have one. Ask them to check your System pressure and control pressure when hot.

had fuel pressure checked that's OK, air valve working also changed sensors with some sh ones no difference.
the car had been off the road for six years, so perhaps that's the cause i have been using injection
cleaner.
when i spoke to the ford boys, one guy had rebuilt his engine and replaced both the accumulator and injectors with new ones but his car was still difficult to start when hot, so i take it that your 28's start OK when hot!

Sticking pressure plate maybe, sitting a little low.
Just guessing !

0.5 mm clearnce cold

1 use to have a lot of 2.8 capris and strip them for extra cash for my car if your in the birmingham area ive got all some parts you can use to test the car
