Is your battery secured in your car?

Hi Guys

I am doing the Cadwell track day next Tuesday,and am a little worried that the battery is not
secured into the car in any way with a strap or anything.
Will I get thru scrutineering if it isn't actually fastened in?

Is your battery fastened at all to your car, and if so
can you email any pics so I can get ideas of what to attach to?

There doesn't look to be much room for it to move about, backwards, forwards or upwards to the bonnet.
Would it be feasible to just put a piece of wood or anything on top
to stop it possibly lifting or bouncing upwards towards the bonnet?

Used a luggage strap from a DIY place for mine (no longer own it). Used a couple of penny washers and drilled new holes and use new screws to secure the strap either side of the battery. Passed muster on a TVR club track day.

IMO I would think that battery has to be securely fastened. Safety issue.
Agree that it is "wedged" in there fairly tightly but really don't believe just a bit of wood is acceptable.
Angled aluminium across the edge which is then fastened to body by hook and nut and bolt.
Sorry no piccies but looks like it can be done ok.

I can't speak from experience for track days but for rallying certainly and I'm sure same applies for circuits.
Better to be safe than sorry.

Perhaps some one has piccies available of a racing / hillclimbing Wedge showing what can be done.

I have just replaced my battery and the nearest equivalent new battery to the existing specification was a very very tight fit so I doubt it would go anywhere.

However, i do also have a strap attached to the bulk head between driver and battery and down to the bottom of the battery area.

I think you will need a strap.
Also I fitted some stick on rubber matt below and on the side of mine, I think I may have used the wrong stuff in a way, as the battery seems to sick to it like glue, and u need a crowbar to get the battery out. so its good and bad.

Strangely I was looking at my unfettered battery the other day and therefoe bolted in a right angled bracket to the inner wing to secure it in place. From memory mine was a tight fit against the bulkhead and centre projection but was unrestricted at the other end facing the wheel arch and I can only assume it was held in place by the connectors alone.

If access to the other side of the panel is difficult try a Lotus trick and use cavity wall bolts two types I have seen used both of the expanding metal type have worked well. The rear valance of early Eprits is held on with these www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=18266&ts=01165

Mine went through the last mot a year ago with the battery not fastened at all!

Ive now used a car sponge to wedge it in as its safe on the car but really does hold it in. Far stronger, IMHO, than any strap held onto the body!

Thanks for all the help guys

I have just had my car in the garage to have the old tyres
put back on so I don't ruin my new tread on the trackday
and have also had them make me up a bracket to hold the battery in place

They have done a great job in my opinion so if anyone wants a pic then let me know
