350i, runs very nicely, now doesn't want to idle.

Starts on the key but stops straight away unless you hold it on the throttle.
Can somebody please point me in the right direction for the component that controls the idle! Cheers All!

Probably ECU Engine Temp Sensor, at front of inlet manifold, I had the same problem, about £7 from a landy dealer.

Think that a look at the throttlepot setting (325mV) would be my first thing to have a look at in your case.

you can unplug the throttle pot and it will run ok, and this will not impact the idle.

Another thought, which I had on mine, is the mixture - too rich can cause bad tickover

Assuming that this only happens when the engine is cold - you did't say - then the EAV is not opening properly to allow the raised idle speed necessary to overcome the cold engine friction forces. Check the integrity of the connector or wiring to the bimetal element inside the EAV. If the wiring is OK test the component off the car.

Assuming that the problem occurs Hot (and Cold) then you have an unwanted air leak that is destroying your mixture and the ECU can do nothing about it, or you have a Efi wiring or connector fault, or you have a component fault such as already mentioned elsewhere.

Sounds like the ECU coolant temp sensor not working and going open circuit, remove the plug, and bridge the contacts with a wire link. This should then allow the ECU to lean off the mixture.
