I've got a couple of bits of stitching that have started to give way; on the seat and on the rear window.

Can anyone recommend what kind of thread should be used to repair it? Or is glue a better solution on the rear window?

I glued my rear window. Used a waterproof glue from local chandlers - Streaky

After snapping needles, I found its too hard work to stitch. I'm experimenting with strong magnets at the moment.

Any recommendations on glue?

I think I might try this:

Get some strong curved needles.

I tend to use nylon thread for this sort of job as it doesn't rot. Before the stitch is fully tightened I use contact adhesive glooped in, it dries in about 24 hours but remains flexible.

There was a fairly recent thread on here about replacing the rear window & stitching by hand. It detailed the thread & needles to use.
You should find it if you do a search on hoods.

Re-Upholstered my seats last year. I used leather needles in a typical home machine. After being laughed out of the sowing shop by the lady behind the till for trying to stitch two layers of full hide together on a home machine, I did it. Just goes to show you can f%£k convention when you have determination! Anyway slow and steady did the trick. The leather needles are very sharp, and should think they would do the hood. Adams idea of nylon is a good idea, a strong fishing wire should fit through the needles. Its a damn site cheaper to try yourself than to get it done by a pro!
