Moaning

Since conversion to Megasquirt, from Flapper, I've notice a moaning noise from the inlet on over run, or even if I just give it a good blip of the throttle. This noise stops as soon as a the throttle is reapplied. It would appear that the noise is caused by air being pulled into the engine through the closed throttle body. Any thoughts or ideas?

yes put your wife in the pasenger seat and then show her the noise and tell here you now have something that moans at u more than she does

There is an overrun valve at the back of the plenum that can make this sound. And it is designed to let air in on the overrun. There is a bit of information in the wedge bible how to adjust it to its best setting. Don't know if you still need it with the replacement ECU. Several have changed to aftermarket ECU, so probably can tell you more about this.

Maybe you can experiment with the stepper motor setting in the Mega software..

it adjusts all the time to maintain tickover..

Yeah, the moaning does come from that side of the car, espescially when overtaking.

This was a flapper system, so no stepper motor. Not sure about the overrun valve either as the cars away for it's MOT.

If you have no stepper motor then it's not that and if it's on overtaking - wide open throttle then it's probably just the noise from the induction from the air filter..

Quite a nice noise from mine..

It's on a closed throttle on over run, or on a closed throttle after revving the engine. The noise stops when the throttle is cracked open.

Induction noise is nice on mine too, though I've lost all my pops and bangs on overrun. Suppose I could programme a little fuel into the overrun just for effect.
