Power Steering ?
Discussion
There appear to be 2 possible PS pumps for the V8 engined wedges.
I had the type that has an additional reservoir - so the pump had 3 pipes.
1. High pressure from pump to steering rack
2. A return from the rack to the PS pump
3. A supply to the external reservoir to ps pump
Now I was unable to get on of these - so I bought the other type of pump and this has an integral reservoir
and only 1 pipe to the ps rack.
So the question is - if some of you also have this pump - is the return pipe from the rack just blanked off ?

Hi. Are you sure there were three pipes? I've got the power steering pump which has the seperate black metal reservoir, but there are only two pipes attatched to the pump, one to the rack and one to the reservoir. So if this pump only has two pipes then the one with the integral reservoir might only need one. The seperate reservoir receives a second pipe presumably from the rack.I had the type that has an additional reservoir - so the pump had 3 pipes.

Sorry if I'm just confusing matters more....

No, the pump with the integral reservoir (I have this version ) gets the second pipe that would have gone to the reservoir from the rack. Otherwise, how does the oil circulate?Sorry if I'm just confusing matters more....

All
Yes - you were correct.
There is a large nut and in the middle was a blanking rubber which when removed revealed a thread.. sadly a different size to the other pump.
Why are things always so difficult
Oh well - I was more successful in fitting the fans - just fitted the original 12 in (approx 950 cfm) fan plus an additional 14 inch fan (1500 cfm) on the rad.. just need to plumb in the adjustable regulator and fit the water pump..

hi, when i fitted power steering to my 350i i used a cortina mk IV (or V will do) rack which i had reconditioned for £125 at a local allwoods, i needed to fit Granada mk track rod ends, then i got hold of an SD1 3.5 v8 power steering pump bracket from a scrap yard (www.rimmerbros.co.uk sell them though) and a pump for the v8 SD1 from rimmers too, they now sell them brand new for £45 which is a bargin because they were nearly £300 a few years back. i had to mod the bracket a bit for easier access and i needed to dent the chassis crossmember to clear the rack, but apart from that it went very easily (consideringevery specialist tells you it cant be done, unless they do it of course, loads of cash.
the hoses i got made up at a local hydraulics specialis for £40 which was a bit pricey, i had them made longer because i wasnt sure where to route them, also the return only needed to be a piece of hose with jubilee clips, i had a fancy one made up.
as far as the pump goes, its an eaton holborn one thats self bleeding and pressure regulating, the screw connector on the back is for the high pressure feed and the lower push on connector is the return.
hope this helps any one, sorry if too much detail, i didnt fully read the other posts.
regards
jon.
