what is it ?

any ideas looks a bit diy to me some cars have a grill over it some have the plastic but not cut out some cars dont have it at all.
is it to let fumes in to the cabin or just water?
any awnsers or should i just block it up?

Mine doesn't have anything like this but seen a wedge recently with a mesh grill in the rear lip of the bonnet (high pressure area) and a box which joined to the intake you show. - therfore 'fresh' air to the back of the heater - there was a drain arrangement at the bottom of the piece you show.
Good idea in principle - interesting if anybody has actually made them work without filling the car with water.

Yup, that's the heater intake. Mine works just fine, always hot and always blowing.

heater intake my heater works fine too it just seems to be to open to the elements was thinking about blocking up and cutting some small hoes in the front or the plastic?

Don't do it!

If you look at the mating face on the bonnet you'll see some foam that goes around that hole.

This is to seal out the engine bay smells so the air gets sucked in from the windscreen side.

If you ever had an exhaust leak you would get CO in the cabin, without the foam in place, or drilling holes etc....

Well spotted! And you didn't you have a drive in it round the Woodman last autumn?

no never driven it.
dulich village is the only place i know that has white fencing and chains near the road.
should of been a detective!
do you mean the woodman pub for the surrey monthly meet i hope to be going to the next one , been having a few probs lately but seems to running fine now .

my 350i has a mesh over it with the washer jets in it, but the bonnet has a vent in it too on the inside near the wiper for getting air into it.

my 390 didn't have a hole so i cut one, the heater blower was a lot better after this.

I tend to go the woodman for the odd pistonheads meet, but only when the car's going, hence not been for a while. And yes, dulwich is distinctive!
