My power steering whines!

It could almost be a supercharger its that loud!!

Its the system with the integral reservoir, and you can hear the damn thing over the engine from inside the car...

Do other people find this, or have I got problems??

Seems that this stuff is nearly indestructable. Assume the fluid level (ATF) is ok. If not this cures a lot of issues.
Don't have this on the wedge but on my SD1, and it only makes a bit of noise when it stood for a while but stops quickly, and steering while standing still/maximum turn position.
Only issue could be a leak, causing low fluid level, but don't know if this could wreck the pump.
It is driven by the belt. Perhaps this is slipping and making the noise?

Probably no help, but perhaps the information can point you in a direction.

Mine is so quiet I didn't realise I had PAS until some bright spark pointed out a pump low down at front of engine bay.

However, my daughter had a problem with her rover which had extremely noisy PAS. Her fluid was low so I went to Halfords to buy some to top up. The guy there said he recommended a special fluid that would shut up any PAS noise. I bought it and it did what it said on the tin. So go to Halfords.
