first long run out

took the fhc to liverpool this week end after months of surgery
a few bugs to still sort out
there's a light clonk somewhere to the left and rear of the transmission tunnel
do the gear box mounts go soft ?
anyone know if they are a rover part ot something else

Is the clunk noticeable under braking? Try squirting some WD40 on the mounts and see if it stops it

clunks as you go over pot holes etc - i thought the engine and gearbox might be leaping about and bashing the exhaust or something similar

I have known the gearbox mounts turn to goo once they've been liberally doused in transmission fluid for years...

They may well be standard Rover bits: I found they were exactly the same as used for shock mounts on certain Philips industrial X-ray systems
I think RS and others sell similar items.

Ah, that sounds like the exhaust, I think you might need to remove the manifold, and cut and re-weld, as you did on the 390se. The clearance is very tight on the SS JP exhaust/manifold combination.
