Sell, Scrap or Recon ?

Hi all,
Just stepped over from Tuscan to say hello and ask opinions.
I have still got my 1983 Wedge 280i which I purchased back in 1997.
Since then I have had a 1993 Chimaera 4,0 and recently bought a 2000 Tuscan.
I have sold my Chimaera (very sad to see her go) but still have my poor neglected
Wedge sat at home begging for some attention. She has been sat now for about 4 years so will need a lot of work. Engine, gear box, diff, brakes, ...........etc.
I believe that if I sell her I will get next to nothing and the same goes for scrap.
I realy enjoyed her on the road and drove all over Europe, working in Germany and Switzerland.
She has got some unusual but good looking modifications with starter button on centre console and round rear lights.
(see my cars).
Anyway, I dont want to scrap her, chassis is in good condition etc
My wife says she would like to be able to drive her but must be automatic.

The thing is, how easy is it to swap engine to a R3,5 with automatic box and what else will be involved.
Approx cost would also help.
PS. Spent all my Chimaera sale money on Tuscan Engine rebuild......

Hi there.

There were (IIRC) a few Auto Wedges made, and since I believe the floorpan design (i.e. tunnel design) didnt change from Tazzer to Wedge, I reckon an auto box would work. You'd probably need to get some new trim made up for the T shifter, and of course remove the clutch pedal and put a bigger foot pad on the brake. May also need to modify the front end of the propshaft.

Thanks, sounds like it would be an interesting project.
I have got someone in mind who has the knowledge to do the work but...just the cost stopping me moving
and making me consider all options.
The Tuscan has made me release the Chimaera and consider the Wedge as well.

I didnt realise that there had been auto wedges produced. Told my wife they were not available...oops.
