Drive on the right...

Seriously though - driving over there is a doddle. Go around roundabouts the wrong way (takes a little getting used to!) and remember that traffic joining the motorway has right of way.
Enjoy it!
Its more difficult to get used to sideways on roundabout going tthe wrong way!!....not that i would of course officer

Richard's doughty men, Dave & Pete, stayed till after 9pm friday night, to finish fitting full exhaust, after replacing rear discs, all rear bushes, new rear suspension, oilchange, and chassis treatment. Rich justifiably mocked my apology for a tool kit and lent me the socket needed to nip up the wheel hub nuts after a couple of hundred miles. Made up with the way the car ran, with no more perambulatoresque rattles after the new bushes inc compliance front and steering ones replaced, despite a slightly more uneven tickover when cold than before, I set off for my overnight in Leicester before resuming to Folkestone on sat morning. £25 of 97 in the Texaco services later and I restarted the motor....
.... I smellt the coolant fumes in the cold white mist which enveloped me ... Curious looks from the service station staff confirmed it was not an hallucination, perhaps brought on by the remaining molecules of psilocybin lingering in my neurons from whatever activities I indulged in over 20 years ago. Another Ferkin Head Gasket .... or worse.
So it is back in RT's hands.
Not in France then. Just almost bust. Financially.
Good job I have a sense of hope. Will keep you posted.

Sorry to hear, after all the work/effort that was put into it. Know how you feel, as two years ago I had done all work as well, planned to get new MOT, value established for ensurance and several long journeys planned (over 1000 miles in total) and the wedge started to splutter. Only thing I hadn't touched was the ECU. And yes it was the ECU. But as you, a bit of luck while being unlucky: ECU gave up the ghost 5 minutes from home and could just drive it back, and with a spare ECU less than 50 miles later on the clock the clutch disengage fork broke! Last thing took over a few months to be discovered, and another two months to fix it without taking the engine&box out.
If it is head gaskets, get the garage that did the job to pay for it (agree that before you have it done!)at RT or another good place.
Still going to sunny France I hope?

Aye, lads it was a blessing i was still in UK. Lost eurotunnel fare as paid already. Sorry bout your scenario Rev. OK for BBWF?
As for culpability, garage who did initial repair said they sent for crack test. Guy who did crack test said they wouldnt do it with a hot head unless symptoms indicated. As it was, symptoms then were just loss of coolant and mixing of gases in coolant when tested; this time round, it is fine until warm and then only when engine is turned off and restarted does the white smoke appear. RT hasnt tested it yet so I dont know what the cause is; he suspects cracked head. Maybe worse.

sweating while awaiting the outcome of tests.... am borrowed to the hilt and may need another engine .... what would you do if you needed a new liner and only had £700 max for parts and labour? Having spent £9.5k on this including purchase price since March, plus thrown a further £3.5K at my old P5B Coupe on refurb this year, i now have neither of them on the road and am almost in despair. Almost, but not quite. Aint coming to BBWF in my Jetta, though it cost me £640 3 years ago and runs great all the time :chewnailstobonesmiley:
Would track down an old RV8 EFI runner (Range/Discovery)-whatever the capacity! Take engine out, and put in the wedge, until can afford fully build by RPi or the likes hot 4.6.... And enjoy the 'cheap' wedging in the mean time.
But this involves myself taking:
- engine from wedge
- engine from donor car
- put engine in wedge
But he, that is only me and being Dutch saving a lot of money on parts and labour for the moment.
Hopefully it is just a cracked head, and these are not to bad (to find, on costs, and to install....)
Good luck.

Hope whatever happens that theres a positive outcome in the end and your a Highway Star again real soon.
Good luck and come to Wedgefest anyway - dont let the ba&**ds wear you down.

Chim 400 engine on offer for £1200 & fitting
I'd only give £900 for it...What about contacting one of the RV8 specialists? They take engines out and put them into cars (also TVR). Perhaps they can make you an offer you can't refuse (like 700 pounds....). And in the mean time strike a deal to get yourself a hot RV8 in the future at a decent price.
Rob
Lads, the ebay one has gone and for 188bhp I'd have been a tad disappointed - my current one put out 238bhp and 254lbs/ft even with a dodgy head gasket then liner... The price is 1700 inc fitting, the engine has done 30K and has fsh to date, out put not known. RT will guarantee for a year ... but I need to find the readies... Steve, that Karma thing is an issue right now... Have to take the hit some how... Bought P5B Coupe last Oct for 3250, spent further 3000 to date on work inc new windscreen seals and mot stuff, then door gets damaged when jumped into reverse and head gasket on THAT went, meaning it has value around 2000 tops... BBWF looks far far away...
