Oil Filter

Does anyone know if the Land Rover oil filter :

ERR3340

for the Discovery V8 is OK for the remote filter location on the wedge ?

As long as it has the one was seal then I can't see why not. but most disco's ones are not used upsidedown. but if it don't have the one way seal I would not use it. unless you want to turn the engine over for 15-30 seconds with HT lead off. before starting each time.

So how do we know if it has a one way seal ?

From what I can remember there is a rubber seal round all the small outlet holes.
It's been a while.
Cant you get a FRAM one. that is know to have the seal.

That is the recommended filter. It does not drain the system, oil pressure on a early 350i with the more accurate oil pipe mechanical gauge has an almost instant response when the engine fires up. When left for weeks at a time during winter the same applies.

Yes - can get FRAM PH2821a but just thought I'd try the LR original as many dealers seem to use them now.

But are they mounted upside down as well? If not, probably don't have a return valve....

Just checked mine (350i) and it's a Unipart GFE181 - don't know if that helps!

Aye, I think mine's a Unipart... er, FL135 rings a bell... dunno about one-way seals but the oil doesn't seem to drain down even after standing for weeks.

It just arrived this morning on a low loader from France

Just need to fit a new water pump

I use a Champion C105, and I always have instant pressure on start up. It is fitted hanging down though which seems sensible to me. Somebody please tell me why so many Wedges have the filter upside down, ie with the feed and return pipes below the filter. This just seems a recipe for messy oil changes to me?

Bump..................Oh come on, somebody please tell, there must be some reason why so many of yours stick up and mine hangs down!

Ease of fitting? Can't say there is too much room to go the other way. Its not too bad changing them. Where does yours hang?

Most of them stick upwards because that's the way the factory fitted them.

Those of us who have turned them the other way up have done it because of convenience changing the oil and prevention of the oil finding its way back into the sump when the flap filter didn't form a perfect seal.

Thanks guys, I was beginning to get a complex! Mine is in the same position, just the other way up. When I change the oil I disconnect the pipes and plug them, then unbolt the filter mounting and stick it in the vice to unscrew the filter away from the car. It is the easiest car to do a mess free oil change on I've ever had.

Thanks for that, as that's what I have just found in my parts box, and was hoping it was the right one.

Any one know where do you get the shiny ones from tho.
