It could be a selector bush collapsed so you are getting metal-to metal contact. That would transmit much more vibration through into the cabin.
If this is the problem, then theres prolly nothing wrong apart from the knackered bush: it just needs replacing to correct the issue.
Dad had a similar problem on a BMW gearbox once. New bush: problem gone.
How far can you wobble the gearlever when it in neutral?
Mines got a slop of about 1cm (IIRC) at the top of the lever.

i hope it is as simple as a bush, how hard to do and where do you access it from if its a garage job will it be costly?

The telltale symptom of the bush problem is hot much the gear lever moves if you pull it up vertically. If it's nore than a few mm then the bushes are on the way out.
In extreme cases the gear selector will bounce on the propshaft with amusing results!
The bushes aren't _that_ hard to replace, you just have to stick your arm up there from below and fumble around. It took me about 30 or 40 minutes.

Absolut right...try to pull your gear lever up 2 or 3 mm is on mine. it's quite easy to do.In extreme cases the gear selector will bounce on the propshaft with amusing results!
