400SE compression ration.

Any one know what this should be.

3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 Tin gaskets - 18thou (0.45mm)
3.9/4.0/4.2/4.6 Composite gaskets - 48thou (1.2mm)

Also the size of the stange orignal head gaskets with the copper rings, as I can only find info on the Tin and Composite ones.

For most engines I think the quoted C.R. was between 9.35 and 10.5:1. There will be some higher (I bet they're a nightmare) and possibly some lower (especially those bored, stroked and otherwise fettled without due regard for the C.R.).

The brochure claims 10.5 to 1

When my standard 400se engine was stripped (first time from new as far as can be ascertained) , it was running at 8.8 to 1.

Now it runs 10.5 to 1

The difference in response/noise/performance is measurable!

Hi Is there anyway to test with heads on, or should I have done this when they was off.

I believe the only way to tell - is to measure the chamber in cc's and ditto the piston area at top of the block..

It's an expert job really..
