I was under my 450SE, changing the gearbox oil when I found this tucked up on the chassis.

Just so you know where you are looking that is the off side exhaust on the left of the pic and the body to chassis mountiing plate that you can see is just ahead of the drivers seat.

The strange little piece of metal bar was found resting where you can see it sticking up. It was obviously glued in position but over time has come unstuck and was just resting there.

Some more pics of the small piece on the bench with a 20p for scale.

As you can see there isn't any chassis paint on it so I can't make out why someone has gone to the trouble of gluing it in place.

I just wonder if maybe it was to cure some sort of vibration or harmonics problem?

Anyone got any ideas?

Ahhhh.....

That'll be the fally offy gizmo! smile

Seriously;

I know nothing about Tivs, but looking that picture I'd say someone put it there to stop that pipe rubbing and banging on what looks like the glass fibre tub which is adjacent.

Edit;

That pipe looks like part of the chassis. Is it to try and prevent lateral movement of the tub? I doubt very much that the screw and nut would prevent that, and I can see the nut falling off with the vibration.

It's not a lump of zinc or whatever the metal is that they use on boats as a sacrificial anode to prevent galvanic corrosion is it? It might work too if you spend a lot of time fording streams.

My first thought was that it was a fag packet used to space out the chassis from the body as the factory had run out of the proper stuffsilly

Looks like the head of an axe... Was the previous owner a homicidal maniac of the chopper wielding variety?

It may be a spacer or heat shield, when some one has done a bit of welding. as the resin in fiberglass can catch fire, and weling can create a lot of local heat.
