Ok, may as well change all the fuel hoses while there is mo petrol in the car, and while im trying to get the swirl pot fixed.

Just wondering if how much high pressure hose I need. I know its 8mm id. don't want to order too much as its expensive.

I know I'll only need a meter of 5/8" low pressure. plus finding it a pain to find 1" fuel hose.

I used cunifer brake pipe for lorries with the same ID, with just a short piece of injection-rated u/l hose at each end. Works a treat! Much cheaper and - I think - indestructible. It'll last forever (well after the chassis has rotted away!)

I replaced mine as per original spec. ie piece of copper for pressure feed with 8m Gates Multifuel hose at either end. Gates hose is about 4 quid a metre, and good for all fuels up to 1MPa (10 bar, 148PSI working pressure).

I bought about 10 metres in all. The tricky bit is getting the return hose strung all the way across the car, and then getting it over the return stub on the nearside of the tank.

Its worth buying new hoseclips too, and I would advise buying ALL stainless clips, as they wont rust! Either that or O (Oetiker) clips are ok for that sort of pressure.

When i had the injectors cleaned I also replaced the hose from the fuel rail to the injectors. Its a staight puch fit onto the injectors, as the barbs are shaped so it wont pull off even under pressure. You'd have to cut it off, and then pull the useless little collar off. I didnt take any chances and O clipped the new hose on though.

HTH.

Ed.
P.S. I take it know you'll need to remove the drivers side sill cover to do this...

The 1in - 25mm is difficult to find.
I finally found a local supplier and I believe it is petrol pump hose - strong but inflexible and a ba*** to fit.
Make sure you get a swirl pot with 1in connections as earlier cars were smaller bore. I think SPub is making the smaller bore one
My flow and return pipes were on the top of the chassis and flex pipe all the way (no copper or stainless)

wow thanks for the info.

Where do I buy cunifer brake pipe from,

I found a supplier of 1" from a marine suppliers.

umm did not know I had to remove the drivers side seal, may leave that bit for another time,

I'll just change the stuff by the tanks for now.

I think I have a copper pipe for the return.

I just wanted to order it all together, to save a bit on postage, and was wondering how much to buy.

I have ordered the 1" swirl pot from RT. but will have to do a temp fix as they will be 7-10 days.

I have allready changed all clips to stainless.

The orignal hose is ok io the internal layer but the outerlayer is getting a bit cracked. esp on the tight bends.

Thanks again
Leigh

Cunifer is Cu-Ni-Fe alloy. How's your chemistry? ;^)

Not so sure about pure copper. Trouble is, it work-hardens and gets brittle. Having said that the copper pipe on the hydraulic clutch has lasted 20 years....

Not all wedges have it routed like that, mine has routed everything inside the tunnel and not under the sill. I like this setup (in case of a crash...), but it can cause vapour lock (never had it even under extremely hot weather and/or trackdays).

I have a roll of the Cunifer pipe if you are struggling to find some. I was going to do the same as you and run it down the car with a connection of rubber hose on each end. After some deliberation I decided to run steel braided rubber hose from front to back with just 1 connection on each end, simply to cut down on the number of joints. By the time you have paid for 2 aeroquip joints you may as well have bought a couple extra meters of steel braided fuel line, expensive though it is. I think on some of the race cars they run the Cunifer inside rubber hose to protect it.

I'll have a look at what I've allready.

I was tempted to go for the stainless overbraid, but was having problems, as the stuff I could find said it was not for high pressure i.e. injection. also the hose finishers say the same thing.

I did get some tho in the past as used it for the cold start injector, and the line from the FPR and return coper pipe.

Where did you get your overbraid, and was it high pressure stuff.

Thanks leigh

I got mine from Demon Tweeks. I can dig out the details if you need them. Couple of pics of the routing of the pipe:

Thanks steve,
Looks a great job,
If you can find the demontweeks part #, would be handy, as could not find it on there site.

Also not sure the sills come of that easy on the 400SE as I think there are all one part.

I'm taking tomorrow off, so will have a better look.

Hopefully my fuel swril pot should be fixed today, will find out at 2pm

Leigh, here is a link to the hose on the Demon Tweeks website

http://www.demon-tweeks.com/products/ProductDetail...

Had a look on the Goodridge website and it specifies the working pressure on the 200 hose as 69 Bar (1000 PSI) so should do the job no problem.
Cheers Steve

Agreed it wasn't cheap. I was using aeroquip fitting and by the time I had paid for the extra fittings to join different types of pipe it was almost as cheap to buy the extra '200 type' hose and just have a fitting at each end.
