Went for a nice blast yesterday. Parked up at a local food festival for a couple of hours and then did a slow rumble leaving the premises. The exit was slightly down hill. Braked for the junction and the brake pedal goes to the floor. Quick thinking and some pumping of the brakes brought me to a standstill. I eventually get home via a circuitous route that I know will involve less use of the brakes.

Locate the leak on the front offside. Tighten the union between the copper pipe and the braided caliper pipe and the fluid begins peeing out at a much greater rate of knots. I strip everything down to find that the copper pipe had broken off behind the flare in the brake pipe union, hence no effective fluid seal, loss of fluid and braking efficiency and a brown trouser moment.

Just thought i'd let you know about this as it's the first time I've experienced something like it. Just been to my local mechanic who made me a new copper pipe for free.....top bloke !!

Should be back on the road later this week with a fully bled system and working brakes.....just in time to miss BBWF 'cos of bloomin' family stuff.....bah !!

Something similar happened to me about 10yrs ago on the inner ring road in Leeds, but I was in my Alfa 164 that I had at that time. One of the front brake pipes split under heavy braking yikes - but I fortunately managed to stop using other means and without running into anyone - then drove home slowly using the handbrake. Definitely gets the adrenaline going when it happens ...
