Sounds like you've worn away the splines on the inside of the wiper arm pivot. The same happened to mine.
You could try screwing the retaining nut down hard - but this won't last long. Also - stick some silver paper in the hole - again won't last long but may get you out of trouble.
Apart from that, the Fiesta wiper arm is a super fit! Pop down to your local car spares shop - or even scrappy

If you have no wipers, use "Rainex". Available in Halfrauds for about £6 or so.
If you apply it correctly (degrease screen beforehand etc) then you don't need wipers. Sounds a big claim to make but it works a treat.

Hope your right as that's what I'm relying on. My wipers have been broken for a while but I need to get at the small gearbox, which is a dash out/ heater out job. If you apply it correctly (degrease screen beforehand etc) then you don't need wipers. Sounds a big claim to make but it works a treat.

As part of my green machine polishing I did the rain-x on windscreen, side windows, mirrors and lights too.
My technique is this:
1. Wash windows
2. Dry windows with a towel
3. Use kitchen towel to clean windows with meths
4. Dry off windows with clean kitchen towel
5. Then apply the rain-x, squirt it along the top edge and as the drops run down, work it in with some clean kitchen towel
6. Wipe off excess but don't wash windows, just leave it until it rains.
Works a treat.
