testing starter motor - very quick answer needed!!
Discussion
OK. get some jump leads and a battery. Clamp the black lead between battery neg termianl and other one on Starter casing, probably one of the mounting lugs.
Connect the red lead to the big threaded stud. stand on the motor with one foot and whack (literally, make firm and quick contact) the other end of the red lead onto the battery pos terminal. The motor should click loudly and spin up.
2 M8 studs? Hmmm... Need someone to identify which is which... Someone'll be along shortly im sure. If youre feeling lucky (punk), try one after the other. My only though is that one might be for the solenoid live, and one for the motor live.

Took the starter to a local repair guy and it works fine. Not bad for an original 1983 motor ay what!!!
Said it is the battery. He said 10.5volts is no good. Anyway went to MotorWorld and the only one they had that would fit was a 38amp 330cca thingy. ( size 8.5"x5" )
In the spec book was a 65amp 630cca battery ( 6.5"x10" )which is physically too big to go into the battery enclosure.
The Unipart Samson GBA3015 battery that I have now, all writings have worn off. It used to be fine until this wet spell when I didn;t use the car for a few months.....bugger
Anybody got similar probs or a higher spec battery model......................ta like UG
