Can anyone tell me if its possible to fix a broken speedo assembly. Dave Batty has had my car for over 6 weeks says the assmebly has boken inside the gearbox and will either need a new part or a replacement g/box. Not sure what to believe.

Is there an altenative fix such as an electronic set up? My car is an 89 S2 350.

Cheers

My (SW) speedo died, or rather was deceased when I first bought her. Not 100% sure what was up with it but neither odometer or speedo functioned.

£25-£30 and two days later it was returned, clean, calibrated and working perfectly.

Highly recommended, no connection with them, just a happy customer :-)

cheers

If its at the gearbox end, it is probably a worn driven gear. they are normally made of nylon, and are easy to replace, just take the clamp plate off, pull out the old one, and put in a new one.

He didn't but then again I didn't enquire. I was just happy he fixed it and I didn't have to go in pursuit of another one.

Seemed helpful during (email) conversations so it may be worth your while asking for his opinion on what they've said.

I had a half hearted attempt to look at it myself but soon decided I'd probably do more harm than good trying to take it apart.

cheers
Dave

Hmmm, oops, I think I misinterpreted your initial post. For some odd reason I was assuming the gearbox inside the speedo not the obvious gearbox attached to the engine.

Dead simple,

Undo the clamp plate to remove speedo cable, pull out driven gear (twist as you pull, as it's a helical gear, may need a bit of a tug a). Put new one in ( with new 'o' ring. That's it!
