Beware your car under covers.

Like most of us I think, as much as we may try to use our wedges, the use would probably be classed as occasional, and spends the rest of the time under covers in the garage, nice and dry and warm, now, there are other things that like it under your car cover, nice and dry and warm.

Took the car to work yesterday and today, first time out since BBWF, which I might add was a great weekend, I enjoyed muchly, a credit to all, organisers and attendees.
Anyway after a few minutes into my journey I started to feel uneasy, like I was being watched, still I carried on trying to convince myself that it was all in my mind, after a few more minutes and a few more miles, I caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye, it became obvious that I was not alone!, something was in the cockpit with me, before I had a chance to wonder what the hell was going on and what it might be, an efin great spider yikes, with a carbon foot print at least equal to mine, came running across me along the seatbelt from shoulder to waist, to say I don’t like spiders would be an understatement (I’m not afraid to admit it), anyway a big girlie scream in conjunction with a lot of flapping and desperately trying to get the thing off me, very very almost resulted in one less wedge and wedger on the road today, as for a brief panic stricken moment it seemed considerably more important to get this thing off me than it was to maintain some sort of control over the car, also if I ever wanted better breaks, this was it, no amount of breaking power was going to bring me to a screeching halt quick enough, so I could jump out and shake myself down, which I did after regaining some sort of control over the car, with no sign of said arachnid, now I know I have to get back in the car at some point, so I thoroughly check out myself and then the car sonar as much as I can, at arms length no less, no sign of the bloody thing, and no sign since, but I know it’s still in there somewhere, just waiting, watching, until that moment once again when I least expect it.
I’m ready for it this time though, I’m conditioning my mind with some spider surprise training, aided by my wife and kids who don’t seem to mind them at all, this consists of them picking spiders up from around the house and chucking them at me when I least expect it, if I don’t gain some self composure in this discipline, I’ll never be able to relax in my wedge again.

Just thought I’d share that little story, it's all true, if a little hammed up, and the moral, ……if you use a car cover, the next time your out driving your wedge, your probably not alone!

Anyone else had any similar experiences with unwanted guests in, on, or under your wedge?.

Damm right they can - go onto Google and search "Spider bite".
Flich over to the images tab - Some horrific spider bites.
I for one shall now be swatting spiders in the bath instead of picking them up and chucking them out of the window!

I've brought the car in again today, enjoying a period of sustained use at the moment, nearly every day this week, great driving.

No re-appearance of large spidey! yet! sonar

The only thing now is, after reading all these comment about 'hundreds of eggs', 'warm weather', 'bites', yikes I'm not sure how I'm going to get home!!

Anyone passing my way, who doesn't use a car cover!!hehe

Make that no NATIVE dangerous one's... whistle

I work a couple of units down from a grape distribution warehouse. We always check under the toilet seats before use... eek

Edited to say that ALL spiders are venomous - it's just that the mouthparts of UK spiders are generally not able to break the skin, or the venom is of low strength teacher

I just did a goolge on uk spiders, found a site and that said, and I quote:-

'In the UK, spiders are not normally thought of as hazardous to health. So it may come as a surprise that a dozen or more species resident in the UK are capable of causing a significant or unpleasant bite.'

If your interested - http://www.nhm.ac.uk/nature-online/life/insects-sp...

Anyway, now I'm definately walking home!! getmecoat

I havent had a beasty creepy crawlys in the wedge, but when i came to sell my sisters car i had the fright of my life!!

My parents live in the countryside to say the least, and my sister now works and lives in the carribean (tough life im sure!!) so i had the job of selling her golf! It had been sitting under a tree for about 3 months by this time....

Anyway, started it up no problems as always, and started to drive down the road and noticed something in the corner of my eye on the windscreen...looked and saw nothing to assumed it must have been my imagination...

A few minutes later at the traffic lights a mouse popped up on the drivers side bottom of the windscreen (outside) and ran along the wipers to the otherside and back down the plastic bit below the windscreen!!

I couldnt believe my eyes! Turns out there were two of them living under the bonnet!!!

I tried all the nice ways to get them out, but they had none of it so stuck the hose pipe in one end, and turned the water on....boy they came out the other end fast!!!

Shame that was in the city and they were country mice!!!
