Over the last 3 weekends or so I have managed to get through all those little jobs you have been putting off but ...

Yesterday when driving the car I noticed some hesitancy after 2k revs but put it down to maybe being cold and it seemed to clear itself. Today same thing but now it will not clear with no power after 2.2k revs.

Car starts and idles no probs
rev smoothly to 2.2k then nothing - returns to smooth idle

No recent work on the engine or electrics as part of my recent jobs!

Checked the simple things like dizzy cap, plug leads, plugs, connections etc all seems well?

Any quick words of wisdom would be appreciated!

May be worth checking the fuel pressure. and check with a strobe that the timing is advancing.

Does it rev ok when not under load.

It does sound like a fuel supply problem..

Bit of a long shot - it's not got an aftermarket rev limiter fitted, by any chance? May have gone pop...

What's it doing when it hits 2200? Just holding nicely like a fast idle, or is it sputtering?

Guys

It just splutters and refuses to do anything above that no matter how hard you press the loud pedal!
once you ease back to 2.2k it runs sweet as a nut. When driving it still pulls in the higher gears up to the 2k level then refuses to go beyond it. No rev limiter that I am aware of fitted to the car.

Could this be the ign amp telling me its on the way out or would that be hesitation across the rev range?

Have you checked the disy weights to make sure a spring has not broken.

If you still have a problem by the weekend,
Your welcome to pop over and swap bits round.

I'll try and find my strobe light also, but not sure if my bro has it or not.

I've got a fuel pressure gauge on its way also.

Leigh

Thats great many thanks - checked the dizzy and all seems as it should be. Will get some new plugs later which NGK plugs are the best to use?

NKG B7ECS

But I don't think the plugs should cause the problem your getting.

Nothing happens just no power there no matter how much gas you give it. Take your foot off the gas and when the revs drop to 2K then it runs as sweet as normal

Ummm very strange.

Have you got plastic pliers, as you may want to check you still getting a spark at > 2k, just use plastic pliers to take one of the HT leads off and hold a few mm from the disy and you should see if it sparking. it will run fine on 7.

Not sure if this will help but I have had similar problems in the past with older cars and it turned out to be the ignition coil breaking down
