my alternator bought the farm. (it still makes electricity but leaks backwards and drains the battery when not running and also may have cooked the battery) Nobody seems to have any in Canada. it is a Bosch k1a ?? 55 amp. Apparently used in the volvo as well. even the major rebuilder, wilson, doesn't have one. It is listed as obsolete.

Is there some more recent alternative that has the same case that I can sub in?

tnx

Can you just strip it and replace the diodes that stop the back flow?

It'll be a Ford one though.

Diodes are a good bet, other than that are there any breaker's yards you can try? When changing alternators I have in the past 'adapted' the loom when I couldn't find the exact match for the connector, but the dimensions were good enough. Just make sure you get the connector with the replacement.
